Code of Conduct
Our Pledge
Melody Studio is dedicated to providing a safe, respectful, and inspiring environment for every student, parent, teacher, and visitor. Music thrives when people feel supported and valued. This Code of Conduct outlines the principles and expectations that guide our community.
By enrolling in lessons or visiting our studio, you agree to uphold these standards and contribute to a positive atmosphere where creativity can flourish.
General Principles
All members of the Melody Studio community are expected to:
- Treat every person with courtesy, dignity, and respect, regardless of age, ability, background, identity, or musical experience.
- Communicate openly and honestly with instructors and staff regarding scheduling, goals, and any concerns.
- Respect the studio space, instruments, and materials. Handle all equipment with care and leave spaces tidy.
- Arrive on time for lessons and notify us at least 24 hours in advance if a cancellation is necessary.
- Maintain a positive and encouraging attitude toward fellow students during group activities, recitals, or while waiting in common areas.
Student Responsibilities
Students are the heart of our studio. To make the most of your musical journey, we ask that you:
- Come to each lesson prepared, having practiced the material assigned by your instructor.
- Bring your own instrument (if applicable) and any required books or sheet music. For piano students, we provide the instrument; please bring your music binder.
- Ask questions freely. Curiosity is a sign of a growing musician, and your instructor is here to guide you.
- Respect your instructor's time by staying focused during the lesson and minimizing distractions.
- For younger students, parents or guardians are welcome to observe quietly from the waiting area, unless otherwise arranged with the instructor.
Parent & Guardian Expectations
Parents and guardians play a vital role in a student's success. We ask that you:
- Support regular practice at home by helping establish a consistent routine.
- Communicate directly with the instructor regarding progress, concerns, or scheduling changes.
- Encourage a growth mindset, celebrating effort as much as achievement.
- Supervise young children in the waiting area and ensure they do not disturb ongoing lessons.
- Notify us promptly of any changes to contact information, billing details, or medical conditions that may affect the student's participation.
Instructor & Staff Commitment
Our team is committed to upholding the highest professional standards. Instructors and staff will:
- Maintain a welcoming, patient, and encouraging teaching style.
- Be prepared for each lesson with a tailored plan that aligns with the student's goals.
- Communicate clearly about expectations, progress, and any recommended materials.
- Respect student confidentiality and privacy at all times.
- Participate in ongoing professional development to continuously improve the quality of instruction.
Prohibited Conduct
The following behaviors are not tolerated at Melody Studio and may result in immediate suspension or termination of lessons without refund:
- Harassment, bullying, discrimination, or any form of verbal or physical intimidation.
- Use of profanity, aggressive language, or threatening behavior toward anyone in the studio.
- Damage to studio property, instruments, or the personal belongings of others.
- Possession or use of drugs, alcohol, or weapons on studio premises.
- Disruptive behavior that interferes with the learning experience of other students.
Digital Conduct (Online Lessons)
For students participating in virtual lessons, the same standards apply. Additionally:
- Join sessions from a quiet, well-lit space with minimal background noise.
- Dress appropriately as you would for an in-person lesson.
- Do not record lessons without the instructor's explicit consent.
- Ensure your device is charged and your internet connection is stable before the session begins.
Reporting Concerns
If you witness or experience any behavior that violates this Code of Conduct, we encourage you to speak up. You can report concerns to:
- Your instructor directly, if comfortable doing so.
- The studio manager by email at [email protected] or by phone at (737) 268-9143.
- An anonymous note left at the front desk or sent via mail to 1601 S Congress Ave, Suite 204, Austin, TX 78704.
All reports will be reviewed promptly and handled with discretion. Retaliation against anyone who reports a concern in good faith is strictly prohibited and will be treated as a separate violation.
Enforcement & Consequences
Melody Studio reserves the right to determine appropriate consequences for violations of this Code of Conduct, up to and including permanent dismissal from the studio. Depending on the severity of the infraction, we may take one or more of the following steps:
- Verbal Warning: A private conversation to address the behavior and clarify expectations.
- Written Warning: A formal notice documenting the incident and required corrective action.
- Suspension: Temporary removal from lessons or studio premises for a defined period.
- Termination: Permanent cancellation of all lessons and access to the studio, without refund of remaining lesson credits.
